Why the water matters more than the brush

Your tap water runs through the truck: a sediment carbon filter first, then reverse osmosis, then a DI filter. What comes out is pure water. Pure water dries without leaving anything behind, so there are no residue spots on the glass. A garden hose leaves the minerals on the panel; you've seen it on a car.

When the truck can't get close enough to the house to run everything, we switch to filter sticks we call dry water. Expensive, and they work fantastic.

The brushes are all rotating and water-fed. Water pours out of the brush the whole time it spins, forwards and backwards across the whole panel, so the brush cleans and rinses in one pass. A window-cleaning brush on a solar panel is a dirty mop on a floor: it pushes the dirt around, and then somebody still has to rinse. Try scrubbing 28 panels by hand and you miss too much.

Most of our solar equipment comes from Germany. It lasts. Europe put panels on houses before America did, because their energy is imported and expensive. Just like Hawaii.

Not only does it show you the work got done. Later on it shows we left your roof in perfect condition. Or if something did happen, we have video proof, and we tell you exactly what happened and take care of it.

Safety and the check-in

What happens that you don't see

  • Yellow poles Yellow is caution. Proper PPE, proper shoes, harness, tie-down. The whole crew trains every year on it.
  • The frame test A badly grounded system can make the metal frame of a panel live. We test before we touch. People have been electrocuted skipping that.
  • Power lines Where they are, relative to the roof and the pole, before anyone goes up.
  • The check-in protocol The tech sends the job videos from the truck. If they haven't landed 30 to 60 minutes after the job should be done, we call. Most techs work a roof alone, so the videos are also how we know they're off it.
  • If the roof is too bad We record it and say so. A cracked tile roof leaks into the house. We'd rather lose the job than be the reason.
  • If we break something Clear RTV on the cracked tile right then, a photo, a call to you, then a matched tile installed. Hours or a couple of days.
